FIFA fraud

Postby Big Vern » Thu May 28, 2015 10:11

Had to happen eventually:

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-32902076

Qatar really was taking the piss. It appears that South Africa paid $10 million for the 2010 World Cup.

It's interesting to look back and see just how much people are capable of lying. Let's hope they can get something on Sepp Blatter, but I think he's smarter than the other idiots.

They probably paid a lot more than that - $10 million was just Warner's cut of the pie.

FIFA is staggeringly corrupt. They've broken the cardinal rule of corruption though, which is "don't piss off the Yanks". The Europeans limited themselves to throwing tantrums about FIFA corruption, but the Americans have the power, will, and reach to do something about it.

A breakaway body might be the best solution here. If the western Europeans (generally less corrupt within FIFA than developing nations) can persuade the US and key South American national associations to form a new governing body, FIFA is done for. A World Cup without Italy, Spain, Germany, Brazil, and Argentina is not a World Cup.

That could get very messy, though. It could end up like Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket, or even worse like professional boxing.

I'm not so sure that the reason they've been busted is they pissed off the yanks - although the money laundering through US banks is what did them. I think they just became too brazen. Qatar was beyond a joke. It was so obviously bent.

 they manage to nail Sepp Blatter.

Absolutely. More like Max Moseley and FIA.
Just like the FIA, many small Countries , whose representatives earn good money from the organization, just want to keep the gravy train running.
Many do not care about the Football..... I think if Blatter was honourable , he would resign. He is not honourable. He now says that "just a few" are responsible !
He presides over the whole mess and at the best has been shown to be inept at knowing what is going on. He said that he could not be responsible for the actions of his employees......rather like the captain of a ship, stating that if someone leaves all the portholes open and it sinks, it is not the captains job to check, even when the ship is obviously sinking

Amazing and yet, sadly, not surprising, Blatter was elected with relative ease.

Blake Carrington wrote:lets get the IOC next!

Yes! And when the Fifa and IOC troughs are no longer awash with bribe money, every greedy despot from shit-holes near and far will come banging on Taiwan's door, ready - for a small consideration - to recognize the ROC as the One True China. And then... er.. um... I'll have to consult my Oracle Bottle as to what follows next and get back to you.

In the meantime brothers, will you stand with me in boycotting the official beer of the 2018 World Cup? Personal sacrifices (BTW, the beer in question is Budweiser) are required if we are to shake up the sordid world of football.

I second that. In fact, would it be better to extend the boycott to, say, forever?

Brilliant find, JP :bravo: .

A billion dollar industry run by guys like this. It's no wonder they reelected Sepp Blatter. Keep that money trough filled high :lick: .

The only possible chance of reform is sponsors such as VISA pull out. Who wants to be associated with those twats?
