Glutenfree diet

Postby Mirjam » Tue Apr 20, 2010 11:55

I just wanted to share some information with regards to glutenfree products. As my son needs to be on a glutenfree diet I had the challenge of finding suitable products here in Taipei. In the end, this is what I found out:

Specialised shops: There really isn't any. All the healthfood stores might carry one or two items, but as I wanted to have lots of replacement products (GF flours, sauces, pastas, starches, soups, baking mixes, etc) I was very disappointed.

Jasons Supermarket (in Xinyi): This does carry GF pastas, pancake mix and a few other GF items. However the products are very expensive.

Check websites: If you go on the websites of major food brands, you can enter into the search function 'glutenfree' and you will find all GF products they are carrying. I tried all sorts of brands from Heinz to Haribo and a variety of German brands. It is very easy to check and gives you more food options. Those products are usually not labeled as GF on the packaging, but they do not contain GF ingredients.

The easiest solution to my 'problem' was an online shop (based in Hong Kong) that ships to Taiwan. The name is Little Giant and the website is: ''

This shop also has plenty of products related to
Allergy: Asthma | Eczema | Food Allergy / Food Allergies / Food Intolerance | Skin Allergy | Dustmite Allergy / Anti-dustmite beddings
Developmental Disorders: Autism / Autistic | ADHD / Hyperactive / Hyperactivity | GFCF Diet Management | Biomedical Treatment | DAN doctors | Biofilm Protocol
Special Diet: Gluten Free Diet | Sugar Free Diet | Dairy Free Diet | Egg Free Diet | Soy Free Diet | Corn Free Diet

The pricing is very reasonable and if you add item costs and shipping it still is cheaper than buying products in Jasons Supermarket.

Hope this helps anyone with the same challenges.

For 2 years, I've been looking for GF products in Taiwan, and since Jason's stopped carrying GF flour, I've given up and I start mixing my own GF flour blend. I would like to share my glutenfree baking recipe with anyone who's interested. my website:

Today is my lucky day, I found GF cracker at Costco(brand: Mary's Gone), and GF biscuit at citysuper Tianmu (on sale). My experience is if a GF item is on sale means the shop just want to get rid of them and never buying from supplier again, so be quick.

Good luck with the bakery and we'll be sending our paleo people your way. The wife might want some flour, too.

Does anyone know if Bakery Code Cafe is still in business? Have they re-located? I just tried calling them but it seems the number is no longer in use :-(
