1) Please search before posting. Note that you should also search content-relevant forums (like Food & Drink for those items, and not just WCIF). If there is a content-relevant forum, the thread should be there, not here.

2) Please append your request to an existing thread if you find a stale one, rather than starting a new one.

3) Please post separately for each search item, not one thread for "olives and sour cream". Two threads, one for each. This makes it much easier for the moderator to merge your thread with an existing one, if any.

Of course, if you still can't find what you're looking for, please do feel free to post, and we'll do our very best to help you find what you need. If you have any trouble using the search function or the forum, please don't hesitate to send a PM (private message) to the Where Can I find...? moderator (right now, that's me, Dragonbones) asking for help. Flea Exterminator

Postby Just Jennifer » Fri Jul 28, 2017 03:32

Flea problem here. Went undetected for a few months I am guessing. Took pets in for grooming in April and they said loads of fleas on the pets. We saw ONE in the weeks/months before that.

Shampoos not working. Those expensive drops you squeeze onto their necks aren't helping. There must be eggs and larvae everywhere.

And then just last night my son pointed out a sign at ground level, right outside our building, that says something like "beware, there are fleas in this area".

Sigh. Could have been in the apartment when we moved in. Could have picked it up at the vet, park, street, but it's a bit of a nightmare.

No bites on us yet but I am a little anxious about clothes, bedding, etc.

Any experience with exterminators or DIY?

I use my trustworthy combo of vinegar and baking soda, and then steam power clean anything else. Safe, effective, disinfectant and deodorant all in one. Cheap too.

And be grateful it is fleas and not ticks.

Really good link, jimi. Icon, I will try the vinegar and baking soda for maintenance after I get rid of them. Worried I can't keep up with them!

How's the situation? Forgot to mention hot steam works wonders. They sell liek steam sweepers for home use that get into those corners brooms cannot.

Problem is that will nuke you and your pets too.

Try the steam. Wash all carpets and bedidngs in hot water. Check the dusty corners where these critters live. Shoes, too.

At home, the pests have been greatly reduced due to the "cooler" weather. Thank heavens!

I have a clothes steamer that we have used on soda and mattresses and pillows.

Mopping with bleach which I hate.

Need to buy an Insect Growth Regulator

They have been on the drops you apply between their shoulder blades. Has no effect.

Have a spray bottle of vinegar and water.

Bought a new vacuum cleaner.

Wash and change our bedding frequently.

Reading Jimi's link again.

Sigh.

There must be a breeding spot somewhere. I remember the fight I had against ticks. Poor Toto ended up in the hospital.
