The Making of Wild Child

Postby Big Vern » Thu Jun 15, 2017 21:41

I found this quite interesting:

Kind of explains why The Soft Parade took so long to produce. Morrison doesn't look completely fucked up - I thought he was already in a much worse state by the time they did their fourth album.

For all the talk of it taking a long time to make, it still only took about 6 months. That's positively fast by today's standards.

True that. In the 60s they knocked them out in a couple of weeks. It's amazing to think that The Doors produced 6 studio albums in, what, the same number of years? With an alcoholic frontman and a really aggressive touring schedule (up until Morrison sabotaged it  ). Rock bands these days don't know they're born!

It takes a pretty tight unit and a brilliant, yet frustrated engineer, to record an album live.

When I was recording, we always laid down bass and drum tracks first, then overdubbed the rest.

Here's some rare footage of them live:

Surely better than the version they released?

However, they upped the ante from "Get down on my knee" to "Get down on your knees".

I've seen a couple of these tracks before, but not the full performance. I strongly advise skipping over the interviewer.

Most people call it the weakest album, but I like it. I think it's better than Waiting for the Sun. Krieger's tracks were more pop, but less overblown than Morrison's.

I'm a fan of it. And the actual song The Soft Parade is one of my favourites.

A bonkers track, but interesting. Very hit and miss live:

I'm a lot more partial to Waiting for the Sun as an album, but there are a couple of nice tracks on the Soft Parade, esp. the title track
