Have you not been much of anywhere yet, or are you the sort to have already planted a flag on the Diaoyutai?

Been to the islands near China, i.e. Kinmen and Matsu (no, not laying the groundwork for Operation Spank the Panda, just collecting butterflies for my collection) and Penghu. I've also done a day trip to Xiao Liuqiu.

I really enjoyed my trips (though I should add the caveat that all visits were on week days thus avoiding the worst of the tourist hordes - one of the benefits of being self-employed. Slurp.)

I suppose "horde" is relative. When one is used to Taipei, even a weekend on Penghu, Kinmen, or Matsu can seem quiet, especially if you go just off-season (e.g., Penghu is empty by October but still warm). On the other hand, Green Island on a busy weekend wasn't my best idea ever, though it's easy to get away from the crowds even there.

I've only been to Green Island and Orchid Island. They were nice enough, but I'd really like to visit Turtle Island. It's quite striking.

Only Kinmen, about 9-10 years ago. Keep having the intention to go to others but haven't made any yet.

I haven't actually visited any as yet, as with working most weekends it can be tricky. We've made plans to go to Penghu, Matsu and Kinmen, but something always seems to come up. The Saffas down here go to Xiao Liu Qiu quite often and I've asked them to let me know when they go. I was assured they would, but everytime I just see their most recent trip picks on Facebook (including the waterfalls near the Ceng Wen reservoir that I've repeatedly asked them to show me. I suppose these and the braai snubs are as a result of being called a race traitor by some of them over the last two years, which has led me to hang out mostly with the Kiwis, who aren't much for island travelling. :idunno:

I guess we'll have to make a concerted effort towards the end of summer or before the schools close.

How about you guys post some pictures of which islands you've been to so those of us who haven't been can base our trip planning on?

Just Orchid Island. Well worth being disastrously seasick on the way over. Even the Navy lads on leave were puking their guts out.
