Ha! I thought I was the only one, being a total sucker for Sci Fi. Not many people seem to have watched it, which is a pity. I also loved it. Natalie Portman was great in it, too.

Edit: Having read your review I think I will watch it again this weekend.

Whilst not being a bit crap, I thought it was so-so.

Careful there! You're coming across as the kind of bloke the reviewer is targeting.

I'll watch it when it becomes available on MOD's pay per view movie channel.

I know I'm a cold dead-eyed automaton, but I was bewildered as to how it had ever got made. My poor old dad looked shell-shocked by the end. My daughter thought it was good and was singing ABBA songs on the drive home, and a couple of chaps sat behind us in the cinema seemed to have a grand old time. Horses for courses, I guess.

I loathed loathed LOATHED ABBA back in the 2nd millennium CE, so I can't imagine I'm a good candidate for viewing this or the original.

With all the rain and being on vacation I watched these three yesterday.

Deadpool 2

Pretty much like the first one. Decent jokes, doesn't take itself seriously. Good piece of entertainment.

War Machine

I thinly veiled look at Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal's last assignment as Commander, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces - Afghanistan (USFOR-A), loosely based on the Rolling Stones article that led to his resignation and retirement.
Initially I thought it was going to be a comedy or something, but it turned out a bit differently. I think Brad Pitt did a good job as "Gen. Glen McMahon". Decent cast. Decent acting.

An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth To Power

I was always a fan of the original and a supporter of Al Gore's climate change crusade. I still think he would have been a great president who would have made positive change for the climate and the planet. This sequel does a great job bringing you up to speed on where things have gone since the original, and for anyone who doesn't yet think Trump is a moron, this drives it home (although Gore is a gent and I don't think that was part of his MO here).
Snow in Cape Town, floods in southern Taiwan. The reality of what's going on right now meshes nicely with the message of this movie. Highly recommended.

Watched A Prayer Before Dawn

Image

Seriously, this is some hardcore shit. I had to pause the film a few times to walk out onto the balcony and get some air. Claustrophobic and nasty with zero respite, it's quite sickening at times. The most awful thing I've ever seen in a movie is the extended rape scene in Irreversible, and much of this verges on that.

That being said, it does its job of gritty realism perfectly. Thai is spoken most of the time, and there are virtually no subtitles, hence the viewer is drawn into the protagonist's world of frustration, misunderstanding and doubt. Some may have a problem with the lead character's circumstances being not at all fleshed out, but that was obviously intentional.
There are no paid extras. Everyone you see is a real, hard criminal. A masterful piece of cinema, but most certainly not for the casual viewer.

Jimi gives it 4.5/5, but does not recommend it to anyone but film buffs.
