2018 World Cup predictions

I find it difficult to see past a German victory. And at 5/1 that's a pretty tasty punt. Anyone like to dissuade me?

Well, Italy and Brazil have done doubles (back to back wins), and this is still a very good German side, arguably at the height of their powers, so it's very possible.

I'll punt 25/1 that Scotland won't qualify.

1. England won't win the cup.
2. English teams will snap up anybody who scores a few goals for a team that does better than expected.
3. Belgium to reach the semi finals.
4. Russian police will clash with drunk supporters.

Yeah, but I won't get any decent odds on any of those predictions. Possibly with the exception of number 3.

EDIT: Jeez, Germany are evens to reach the semis. That has to be an almost give away punt.

I'm talking myself into a massive bet on Germany here. As with all my bets it will end in tears.

The german team are ageing. Their defence has a few shoddy elements, namely Howedes and Rutiger. Italy are always worth a punt.

Last ten winers... Germany, Spain, Italy, Brazil, France, Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Italy, Argentina.

Smart money says it will be one of them. It probably won't be Germany again. It won't be Spain or Argentina. So France, Italy or Brazil.

Italy are a bit of a long shot. But then Denmark in 92? I'd be looking for triple figures.

So who else other than Germany?

Denmark won the Euros. I'm not knocking their achievement but it isn't the world cup.

Italy aren't in it, as Denmark weren't.

I think it's unlikely that a South American team will win. So, as a second choice to Germany I'll pick Spain. Not France or Brazil.

Oh yeah, what a plonker, no Italy. I hang my prediction hat in shame.
Not Spain. Maybe Argentina are due again.

It's not a problem. I was being deliberately obtuse on gin swilling liver failing day off work. Love you, man.

Yeah, gin and gambling might not be the best bedfellows.
