Cheeky Nando's

Postby sandman » Mon May 21, 2018 16:40

Dunno about non-Brits, but for anyone interested, my wife returned from Carrefour with a bottle of Nando's peri-peri hot sauce yesterday. Cheeky indeed!

Yeah, I picked up a large stash last time I went.

Dunno about non-Brits...

Um, Nando's is a South African company.

Yes, I know. But is the Saffa version cheeky, or just spicy chicken? In Britland, nobody goes for a Nando's. It has to be a cheeky Nando's. I've never had it -- long after my time there. But always wanted to try the hot sauce. Its nice.

I love their hot sauce. It's comes in five degrees of hot, and they all taste different.

If anyone's interested, I've used this recipe before:

https://www.everynookandcranny.net/peri ... de-nandos/

Whilst it's not the original, it does approximate it quite well.

Jojo got the mild version. Just as well. Maybe I'm just getting too old, but its well hot enough for me. I'd have gone three stages higher if it had been me. And probably regretted it the next day. But if they have different flavours, I suppose I'll just have to throw caution to the wind and my ringpiece to the vultures. Thanks for the recipe!

I've never eaten in a Nando's. I'll give it a shot this summer.

They're fast-food chicken burger joints. Nothing astonishing, but a step up from McDonalds. And the sauce is great.

It's not really a chicken burger joint in the UK, like say chicken cottage. It's a sit down meal, table service affair, with chicken as the main sell.
And the sauce, like the man says, is great.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I remember it in South Africa, also. In fact, I can't even remember that they had burgers at all, because as you say their main sell is the chicken.

I ate half a bottle at work on sourdough bread from Carrefour with smoked cheese. Then when I got home I mixed some with Hellman's mayonnaise and ate it with cucumbers (for the health, you know?) Bloody lovely.

These users gave kudos to the author sandman for the post:
