Best Ever Bond Movie

Ooh, I love lists. In this case they are getting Bond wrong. Casino Royale (2006 version) is clearly the best. The Dalton two are also unfairly treated.

Surprising for the Grauniad to choose a particularly wacist Bond for number one.

Goldfinger and Dr No are 1 and 2 for me, Moonraker is the most overrated, Dalton was a decent Bond, Brosnan's films are largely unmemorable, Skyfall was better than Spectre, and the 1967 Casino Royale shouldn't be included because it was designed as a pisstake.

I thought Casino Royale was slightly crap, although I can't quite put my finger on why. It wasn't Daniel Craig (he was very good) the story just seemed a bit implausible. Yes, I know, it's James Bond, it's supposed to be implausible. But suspension of disbelief is a fragile thing.

You Only Live Twice was definitely one of the better ones, possibly because of Donald Pleasence. Wacist? Was it? 60's/70's Bond was always crass in various ways, so maybe I just didn't notice.

The best news I have heard so far is that Idris Elba is actually seriously being considered as a potential Bond.

15. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969)

15? No way. For book purists, this was the closest it came. :twocents:

True.

And I believe it was the first acting job George Lazenby ever had. Not bad for a novice.

I also thought the Living Daylights was pretty good. Deservedly higher than its ranking. For example; way better than a View to a Kill. :twocents:

Connery's yellow face. That stuff's unacceptable, isn't it? Even back-dated. Then again, Bond's a bit rapey in Goldfinger.

I didn't even notice, but thinking about it, I was probably watching it on a black-and-white TV set. Haven't re-watched it in years. I'll maybe download it from somewhere rent it from a legitimate source.

Fixed that for you :)

Some of his 'seductions' are highly questionable, or would be in current year.

"In particular I dislike a man who comes into contact with all sorts of formidable people using a .25 Beretta. This sort of gun is really a lady’s gun, and not a really nice lady at that." - Major Geoffrey Boothroyd, in a letter to James Bond author Ian Fleming.

Major Geoffrey Boothroyd sounds like the type of lad who had questionable relationships at Eton.

That'd be every lad at Eton, surely?

Was there a spoof starring David Niven? I liked that one.

Yep. Casino Royale. They rate it the worst Bond film.

Their rating system is rather in favour of Sean Connery, although I'm surprised they rate the Daniel Craif ones so highly. I guess that's the new "zeitgeist", i.e. Craig is the second best Bond.
