Sale on e-books about Taiwan, China, Okinawa, and Hong Kong

Postby cranky laowai » Mon Feb 18, 2019 21:51

Five years ago three long-time expats here launched Camphor Press with five e-books and a rudimentary website. We still have the rudimentary website, but now we’re nearing a hundred titles, most in both print and digital editions. Thank you all for your support over the past five years.

To celebrate the occasion, Camphor Press is offering five e-book bundles for just NT$151 (US$5) each. Or you can grab all five bundles and get a couple more great titles thrown in for free -- a total of 14 books -- for just NT$754 (US$25). This is a one-time sale and it will end less than 36 hours from now.

Details and ordering information here.

Memoirs of life in Taiwan, including the must-read Barbarian at the Gate (about an American falling in love with Taiwan, becoming Taiwanese, and serving two years in the ROC military), and Welcome Home, Master (on the experiences of a journalist here and elsewhere in Asia).

Books on China between the revolutions:

A Hong Kong ghost story and a gritty tale of the musical underworld of Taipei:

Two memorable novels of modern China, including the unforgettable black comedy Party Members. These are definitely books you'll be talking about.

Novels set in Okinawa, including the justly famous Teahouse of the August Moon. With a new introduction.

The complete sale package, which has all of the above plus The Flight of the Lapwing (a little-known gem) and An Army Boy in Peking (a ripping, old-fashioned yarn about the siege of Beijing to rescue Westerners from the Boxers -- with realistic details by someone who was there and who became the first soldier in American history to earn the three highest U.S. military decorations).

This is months worth of great reading for a bargain price.
