Non Profits in Taiwan

Postby Yaode » Thu Jan 05, 2012 14:19

Just curious what the equivalent of a US 501(c)3 Non Profit org. is here in Taiwan, or if there's anything roughly equivalent? Also I'd be curious to know what the requirements and benefits are of setting up a Non Profit in Taiwan, how lengthy the process is, and any other general info on establishing Non Profits here that's available.

Thanks in advance, Eiger Law!

The short answer is that you can establish a civil association under the Civil Associations Act. It can be more work than setting up the equivalent in most western countries. You can find a copy of the Act here: http://db.lawbank.com.tw/Eng/FLAW/FLAWDAT0201.asp

The Act sets out what is required to establish one. It does though require a motivated group of people to get things off the ground as you need at least thirty founding members to start the process and then at least nine directors and three supervisors to sit on the board.

This link is for Taipei City: http://www.bosa.tcg.gov.tw/i/i0300.asp? ... oup_type=1

If you scroll down you will find a guide/instructions in Chinese (the Word download) on setting up a Civil Association.

Reviving this article since both links don't work anymore and maybe the rules for setting up an NPO have matured? I'm currently based in Taichung and looking to set up a non-profit. I found some Mandarin websites but could really use some assistance where to find English information? Thanks!
