Despite the beautiful setting, Academia Sinica's museums do not get the attention they deserve, being somewhat off the beaten path. All the museums are open to the public, and admission is free of charge.

Description & Hours:
The Museum of the Institute of History and Philology exhibits its substantial collections in archaeology, Chinese imperial archives, and ethnology, as well as rare books and manuscripts from the Fu Ssu-nien Library. The Museum distinguishes itself from other museums with its emphasis on the scholarly significance of its over 140,000 artifacts. The museum is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm

Hu Shih Memorial Hall was established in memory of Dr. Hu Shih, former ambassador to the United States, and former heads of Peking University in China and Academia Sinica in Taiwan. Hu Shih Memorial Hall is divided into three sections, the former residence, an exhibition room, and Dr. Hu's tomb. In 1974, the surround grounds were turned into Hu Shih Park. The museum is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

The Museum of the Institute of Ethnology traces its origin to 1928 when an Ethnology Section was set up within the Institute of Social Sciences in Mainland China. By 1934, the Ethnology Section was transferred to the Institute of History and Philology. Following the Republic of China's move to Taiwan, the Institute of Ethnology was founded. Since this period, the Institute's primary mission has been the study of sociocultural change among the island's aborigines and Han Chinese. The museum is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

The Lingnan Fine Arts Museum features the first professional archive of Lingnan paintings in Taiwan, famous for innovation in modern Chinese art history. The Lingnan school of painting is noted for its feature of combining the techniques of Western painting and Chinese ink painting, simultaneously promoting modernity and preserving tradition. The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
